James graduated from Durham University with a BA in Economics and History before gaining his PGCE at Oxford Brooks. Having taught at the Dragon School, Oxford, and at Emmanuel School in London, James was Headmaster of Beaudesert Park School, Gloucestershire, from 1997-2018. Alongside his wife; Fiona, the School developed and grew substantially under his leadership. As the leading Prep school in the area, during James’ time the number of children increased from 270 to 450. James grew the day pupil intake as well ensuring the school was the first in the area to offer flexi-boarding. Several large building extensions occurred including a £3 million + Performing Arts Centre. He was a member of the Oxford Group of Prep Schools and is the former Chair of IAPS District 10. He remains on the Council at Clifton College.James is father to three grown-up boys and recently became a grandfather. In his spare time he loves to hike and play golf.
